Texans Tailgating

Among my top NFL tailgate cities is Houston. Texans tailgates made my top five in the FOX Sports Tailgating Handbook.

When the Oilers (now the Tennessee Titans) were in Space City, owner Bud Adams didn't allow tailgating at the Astrodome. He wanted you to buy and eat his food inside. As tailgating grew around the country, Oiler fans grew more and more frustrated with the no-tailgating policy and it was another reason Houston fans didn't like Bud.

When the Houston Texans came to town to replace the Oilers, they built Reliant Stadium with plenty of parking and a policy that encourages tailgating. The fans responded immediately and even though the expansion Texans weren't very good, the tailgates looked like they belonged to a division leader.

One of the best things about Houston tailgating is the barbeuce. Some of the best comes from DIM Cookers. You can learn more about Houston tailgate history and DIM Cookers' barbecue tips in this episode of The Ultimate Tailgate Chef podcast.

All of this is to introduce this video the Houston Chronicle posted about the Colts-Texans tailgate Sunday. It's never dull there. There's even a guy in a kilt.
